Larisa Yurkiw is putting together a season to remember on the Audi FIS Ski World Cup circuit.
The native of Owen Sound, ON skied to a 2nd place finish – her best-ever World Cup result – in the women’s downhill on Friday in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Yurkiw raced down the course in 1:09.68 for her first-ever podium finish and finished just behind winner Elena Fanchini of Italy (1:09.53). Germany’s Viktoria Rebensburg was 3rd in 1:09.84.
Yurkiw has been enjoying the best skiing of her career in 2014-15. She was 4th in the downhill at Lake Louise on December 6 and then had a top-15 finish two weeks later in Val d’Isere, France (Yurkiw ended up 13th in that race).
Friday’s great run gave Yurkiw her 5th top-10 finish since her World Cup career began in 2007.
